What TOEFL score do you need for Tennessee Tech?

The catalog says an applicant is normally expected to score at least 3.5 on the TOEFL, and tells applicants to check the specific college or department for the level needed. Graduate Studies does not accept a medium of instruction letter as proof of English.

For undergraduates, the page lists TOEFL Essentials with a note that students at 3.5 take the ACCUPlacer and those at 4.0 have it waived.

For comparison, graduate IELTS is 6.0 for all groups, and undergraduate IELTS is 5.5.

Applicants from listed countries where English is an official language, such as the UK, Ireland, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and Singapore, do not need an English test for graduate admission. Undergraduates can also use the other tests on the English proficiency page, such as IELTS 5.5 or an Oxford ELLT at Level 6.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Tennessee Tech programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
