What IELTS score do you need for Tennessee Technological University?

Students from countries that do not use English submit TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, PTE Academic or ELS results. IELTS 6.0, Duolingo 100 and ELS Level 112 (not for Education) apply to all programs. TOEFL 79 iBT or 4.0 (from 21 January 2026) applies to Engineering (MS and PhD), Accounting, Business Administration, Chemistry, Mathematics, the Professional Science Master's, Exceptional Learning PhD and Environmental Sciences Chemistry PhD. TOEFL 71 or 3.5 applies to Education master's and EdS (except Counseling and Psychology), English, Biology, Professional Studies and Environmental Sciences Biology PhD. Tennessee Tech does not recognise a medium-of-instruction letter as proof of English. Citizens of listed countries where English is an official language, including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, Singapore and South Africa, do not need a test; India and Pakistan are not on the list. File your application at least six months before you plan to enrol; midyear entry is strongly discouraged.

Undergraduates need TOEFL iBT 61, IELTS 5.5 (including the IELTS Indicator), PTE 52, Duolingo 85, or one of many other qualifications. The table lists India's national board Standard XII at 70% or more and WASSCE or NECO English at C6 among accepted qualifications.
