What TOEFL score do you need for TUM?

TUM says MyBest scores are not accepted and TOEFL ITP is not accepted. You upload a screenshot of your Test Taker Score Report and should use ETS institution code 7806 so TUM can verify the score. The page says a corresponding score on the new 1 to 6 scale is also shown on reports and is accepted, but it does not print a 1 to 6 figure, so this guide does not give one.

On validity, TUM says older recognised certificates are accepted if uploaded as a PDF and that any temporary validity printed on a certificate is not relevant for TUM applications; the minimum scores still apply.

On the same page, TUM asks for IELTS Academic 6.5 overall.

TUM lists other routes: a full secondary or academic education taught in English, enough English-taught credits in your bachelor's for some master's programmes, an English-language bachelor's thesis for some master's programmes (for example at the TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology), and a GMAT above 600 for some TUM School of Management master's programmes.

TOEFL iBT score reports issued since January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score alongside the 0 to 120 total; see our guide to the new TOEFL score scale. Where the page gives only a 0 to 120 figure, that is what this guide reports.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your TUM programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
