What TOEFL score do you need for UMBC?

The Graduate School accepts both MyBest scores and single-date TOEFL scores. Its ETS institution code is 5835. The undergraduate page asks for results to be submitted electronically and describes its figures as recommended levels for admission.

For comparison, the undergraduate page and the graduate page both set IELTS at 6.5.

Neither page describes conditional admission for a low TOEFL score. Students who completed their education in an English-speaking country or institution may be exempt under the Graduate School's guidelines, and undergraduates can also qualify through SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing of 500 or a grade of C or better in English composition at a US college.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UMBC programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
