What IELTS score do you need for UniSQ (University of Southern Queensland)?

For the Bachelor of Nursing, tests taken on or before 22 April 2026 need PTE 66 (56 in writing); results can come from one sitting or two within 12 months, and IELTS, Cambridge and OET must be taken at a test centre. The Bachelor of Education (Primary) accepts IELTS, ISLPR (4 in each skill) or PEAT (A in all four areas), and current Queensland College of Teachers registration also meets the requirement.

UniSQ's general English page says IELTS 6.5 overall with no subscore below 6.0 is accepted evidence for the majority of degrees, while the degree finder lists 6.0 (5.5) for the business and IT degrees above. Go by your own degree's entry and confirm with UniSQ if unsure.

The degree finder also lists Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency (169 with 162 in each for the Bachelor of Business; 185 for the MBA) and LanguageCert Academic (64 or 71). IELTS One Skill Retake is accepted together with valid results of a completed Academic IELTS test. Duolingo, IELTS Online and PTE Academic Online are not stated by UniSQ.

Your test must be completed within two years of applying to UniSQ; its English Language Proficiency Requirements Procedure says a test may be no more than two years old at the date of application. If you fall short, UniSQ points to English for Academic Purposes (EAP2 for the Master of IT, EAP3 for the MBA) through its partner, the Union Institute of Language.

Requirements vary by course, and UniSQ can change them between intakes. Always confirm the score on your course page before you book a test. Your student visa has its own English rules, set by the Department of Home Affairs.

Your offer and your visa are assessed separately. If Home Affairs asks you for English evidence, the Student visa (subclass 500) page sets these minimums for tests taken on or after 7 August 2025: IELTS Academic 6.0, PTE Academic 47 or TOEFL iBT 67. With at least 10 weeks of ELICOS (or a Foundation or eligible Pathway program) packaged with your course they drop to 5.5, 39 and 51, and with at least 20 weeks of ELICOS to 5.0, 31 and 37.

The test must be taken within the 2 years before you lodge (Regular Evidence level), or within the 2 years before a decision if you are Streamlined Evidence level and asked for evidence. Tests delivered entirely online, such as IELTS Online and TOEFL iBT Home Edition, are not accepted for the visa, and from 21 January 2026 TOEFL candidates must select 'Taking TOEFL for Australia' when registering.
