What TOEFL score do you need for Universiti Malaya?

UM's FAQ page says the TOEFL Home Edition and TOEFL ITP are not accepted for admission, and that TOEFL scores are valid for two years and must be valid when you submit them.

For comparison, the same programme pages ask IELTS Academic 5.5 for Computer Science (AI) and Mechanical Engineering, 7.0 for English Language and Linguistics, and 6.0 for the Master of Computer Science (Applied Computing).

The FAQ says the deadline for submitting English test scores is stated in your conditional offer letter, and missing it may lead to the offer being withdrawn or cancelled. Malaysian applicants follow a separate MUET-based route on each programme page.

TOEFL iBT score reports issued since January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score alongside the 0 to 120 total; see our guide to the new TOEFL score scale. Where the page gives only a 0 to 120 figure, that is what this guide reports.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UM programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
