How Adelaide University handles TOEFL scores

Only tests taken at an official test centre are accepted, and tests are generally valid for two years before admission, with shorter periods for some degrees. The page says the University only accepts TOEFL iBT for Australia (0 to 120 format) at a registered test centre, and that the 1 to 6 format is not currently accepted while it reviews the changes to the test.

For nursing and midwifery, results from two sittings within 12 months can count if the 94 total is met in each sitting, the section minimums are met across the two, and no section in either sitting is below 20 listening, 19 reading, 24 writing or 20 speaking.

Adelaide University gives its TOEFL figures on the 0 to 120 scale. Since January 2026 TOEFL iBT score reports also carry a 1 to 6 band score; see the new TOEFL score scale.

For comparison, the same page sets nursing and midwifery at IELTS 7.0 with 7.0 in listening, reading and speaking and 6.5 in writing.

Your offer and your visa are separate. Home Affairs says that for a TOEFL iBT result to be valid for Australian visa purposes you must select 'Taking TOEFL for Australia' when you register, and it lists TOEFL iBT Home Edition among the online tests it does not accept (Home Affairs English page).
