Undergraduate figures are on the English language proficiency page; graduate figures on the Graduate School international page and in the graduate catalog.

Super-scores, validity and IELTS

The Graduate School page says scores must be fewer than two years old at the time of application, that the Graduate School does accept super-scores (it gives TOEFL MyBest as an example), and that official scores sent directly from the testing agency are not required until after admission. Some programmes set higher scores. Neither page mentions PTE Academic Online or PTE Core.

On the undergraduate page, a PTE writing sub-score below 51 means taking Undergraduate Academic Writing (ELC 111), and a speaking sub-score below 51 means Undergraduate Academic Speaking (ELC 110). For comparison, the undergraduate page asks IELTS 6.0 against PTE 54, and the graduate page asks IELTS 6.5 with no sub-score below 6 against PTE 59 with no PTE sub-score floor.

If your PTE score falls short

Undergraduates below the minimum may be eligible for the Pathway to UA programme, per the undergraduate page. Graduate applicants may be considered for conditional language admission: the Graduate School says they must complete the English Language Institute's Intensive English Program with a 3.0 GPA in levels four, five and six, or meet the test score, before becoming eligible for UA-based financial support.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Alabama programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
