How Brighton handles TOEFL scores
Brighton accepts TOEFL iBT as a centre-based test only and labels it a non-SELT. You should have taken and passed the test within two years of starting your course. The page does not mention MyBest scores or an institution code.
The PhD rows are given on the 0 to 120 scale only. TOEFL iBT reports issued since January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score; see how the new TOEFL score scale works.
For comparison, the same page sets IELTS at 6.0 with 5.5 in all components for Standard, 6.5 with 5.5 for High and 7.0 with 6.5 for Advanced.

If your TOEFL score is below Brighton's level
Brighton points applicants who need to improve their English to an in-person pre-sessional course at the University of Brighton International College, or an online pre-sessional course with its partner Oxford International Digital Institute.
