How Dayton handles TOEFL scores

Use the University of Dayton's institution code, 1834, when requesting scores from ETS. The graduate page notes that ETS offers a special at-home edition of the TOEFL and points you to ETS to check whether you qualify.

TOEFL iBT score reports from January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score; our guide to the new TOEFL score scale explains how the two scales appear on a report.

For comparison, the undergraduate catalogue asks for IELTS 6.0, and the graduate page asks for IELTS 6.5, both for full admission.

If your TOEFL score is below Dayton's level

Both pages frame their minimums as the level for full admission. The graduate page also lists the ELS programme among its ways to prove English, and the undergraduate catalogue covers other tests such as iTEP. Ask admissions which route applies if your TOEFL is below the full-admission level.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Dayton programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
