Iowa PTE minimums by level
From the graduate English proficiency requirements page and the undergraduate English proficiency page.
| Programme or band | PTE overall | Minimum per skill |
|---|---|---|
| Graduate | 68 | 58 |
| Undergraduate | Not listed | PTE is not on the undergraduate table |
Test rules and how to send your score
The graduate page asks you to email the graduate admissions office with your PTE Score Report Code. It does not state a validity period or mention PTE Academic Online or PTE Core. English requirements vary by programme.
For comparison, graduate IELTS is 7 overall with no subscore below 6. A PTE score cannot exempt you from the placement evaluation, while TOEFL 100 or IELTS 8.0 can.

After admission
All students admitted with PTE or Duolingo scores take the English Placement Evaluation (EPE) on campus, so expect a placement test in your first days on campus.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Iowa programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
