How Mizzou handles TOEFL scores

The Graduate School accepts only regular TOEFL iBT scaled scores: no MyBest scores and no TOEFL ITP from other institutions. It treats scores as valid for two years beyond the test date, and they must be valid at the start of your entrance term. Undergraduate admissions does not accept TOEFL Essentials. The undergraduate page dates the old-scale rule to tests taken before 26 January 2026.

For comparison, the undergraduate page sets IELTS at 6.5 with no section below 6, and the Graduate School page also sets IELTS Academic at 6.5.

If your TOEFL score is below Mizzou's level

Academic Integration @ Mizzou (AIM) accepts first-year international students who are ready for academic work but do not yet meet the minimum test scores, giving them English language support alongside study. All non-native speakers, even those who meet the minimum, take the English Language Support Program placement exams and may be placed into its courses.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Mizzou programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
