How Münster sets English requirements
We found no university-wide IELTS or TOEFL score for Münster's master's programmes. Each programme lists its proof and level on its own application page, from B2 to C1. None of the four pages below names PTE Academic or the Duolingo English Test.

Exemptions, validity and extra tests
Information Systems accepts a bachelor's degree only if it was completed in an English-speaking country; a degree taught in English elsewhere still needs a certificate, and its page says medium of instruction does not count. Its certificate must be no older than two years. Mathematics accepts an English-language bachelor's, and Public Policy accepts university studies completed in English, with a certificate for each module.
Two programmes add a test for non-EU applicants. Economics asks a GRE with at least 155 Quantitative and 145 Verbal from applicants whose bachelor's is not from the EU. Information Systems asks non-EU applicants for a GMAT Focus of 650 or a GRE of 165 Quantitative and 160 Verbal. Economics no longer requires German; Public Policy still asks for German as well as English.
Your German student visa is handled by the German embassy or consulate where you apply, not by the University of Münster. This guide covers the University of Münster's admission rule only. Our IELTS for Germany guide covers the visa side and test fees.
English requirements in Germany are written into each programme's admission or examination regulations and can change between intakes. The score that binds you is the one on your University of Münster programme page and in your admission letter, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where the University of Münster publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
