How Oregon handles TOEFL scores

Undergraduate scores must be dated within two years of enrolment. Graduate scores must be under two years old when you apply; self-reported scores can be used for initial review, but official scores are needed before final admission, and some programmes ask for more. The graduate office does not accept English-medium-of-instruction certificates in place of a test.

For comparison, the undergraduate page sets IELTS at 6.5 to 9.0 for full admission, and the graduate page sets IELTS at 7.0 overall.

If your TOEFL score is below Oregon's level

Undergraduates without qualifying scores are considered for conditional admission and enrolled in UO Global Welcome; finishing its highest level leads to full admission, and a passing TOEFL or IELTS score submitted during the programme may also be considered, though it does not guarantee full admission. Graduate programmes may request a waiver in exceptional circumstances, but applicants cannot request one directly.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your University of Oregon programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
