UQ TOEFL rules: scale, versions, code and validity

UQ accepts the TOEFL iBT including the Paper Edition. It only recognises TOEFL iBT with section scores on a 1 to 30 scale, and does not recognise TOEFL iBT with section scores reported on a 1 to 6 scale, the TOEFL iBT Home Edition or TOEFL ITP.

Ask ETS to send the official score report directly to The University of Queensland, institution code 0987. Tests must have been taken within two years of starting at UQ, and UQ verifies all results with the test provider. Table 1 notes that, apart from IELTS, acceptance of each test is at UQ's discretion and varies by program.

For comparison, the same page gives the minimum as IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 in all sub-bands, including the One Skill Retake.

If your TOEFL score falls short

If you meet the academic entry requirements but not the English one, UQ offers a package: an English course at UQ College plus a conditional offer to your UQ program. Bridging English runs 10 to 30 weeks and its final assessment can meet the requirement; Integrated English runs 5 to 45 weeks and ends with an approved test.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UQ programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
