How USF handles TOEFL scores
The undergraduate page lists a preferred score and a lower minimum: applicants between the two are admitted through the Academic English program. The graduate table sets a minimum total for each school or programme and, for Arts and Sciences and Education, a minimum iBT subscore. Neither page states a TOEFL code, a MyBest policy or a validity period.
TOEFL iBT score reports issued since January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score alongside the 0 to 120 total; see our guide to the new TOEFL score scale. Where a page above gives only a 0 to 120 figure, that is the figure this guide reports.
For comparison, undergraduates need IELTS 6.5 preferred (6.0 minimum), and graduate programmes ask for IELTS 6.5 or 7.0 on the same pages.

If your TOEFL score is below USF's level
Undergraduates scoring between 65 and 79 (3.5 to 4.0 on the 2026 scale) can still be admitted through the Academic English program. Undergraduates can also skip the test with SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 560, ACT English 22, IB HL English A 5 or a grade A or B in a US college English Composition course. Graduate exemptions for study in English-speaking countries are at the programme's discretion.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your USF programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
