University English requirements

What IELTS score do you need for the University of Stuttgart?

The University of Stuttgart sets no single English score; its admissions page sends applicants to each English-taught master's. INFOTECH asks IELTS Academic 7.0, TOEFL iBT 95 or PTE Academic 76 and does not accept medium-of-instruction letters. Computer Science asks C1, for example IELTS 7 or TOEFL 95, and COMMAS accepts only TOEFL 79 or IELTS 6.5.

How Stuttgart sets English requirements

Stuttgart's international admission page says English-language master's programmes need sufficient English and may set their own requirements and deadlines, published on each programme's website. Applications go through Stuttgart's C@MPUS portal. None of the three programme pages below names Duolingo.

Exemptions and certificate validity

INFOTECH lets nationals with citizenship and education from a listed set of countries send proof of citizenship, such as a passport, instead of a test. The list includes Australia, Canada, Ireland, Malta, New Zealand, the UK, the USA and several Caribbean states. India is not on it, and INFOTECH says MOI certificates are not accepted, with no exceptions.

INFOTECH also notes that some certificates, such as IELTS, are valid for two years, and your certificate must still be valid on the application deadline (15 January or 15 July). Computer Science and COMMAS do not state a validity rule.

Your German student visa is handled by the German embassy or consulate where you apply, not by the University of Stuttgart. This guide covers the University of Stuttgart's admission rule only. Our IELTS for Germany guide covers the visa side and test fees.

English requirements in Germany are written into each programme's admission or examination regulations and can change between intakes. The score that binds you is the one on your University of Stuttgart programme page and in your admission letter, so check it there before you book a test.
