UT Knoxville PTE scores
The undergraduate figure is on the international students page. The Graduate School testing requirements page lists TOEFL, IELTS and Duolingo.
| Programme or band | PTE overall | Minimum per skill |
|---|---|---|
| Undergraduate admission | 53 | None stated |
| Graduate admission | PTE not listed | Not applicable |
Admission, not placement
The undergraduate page marks PTE Academic, Duolingo and Cambridge as used for admission purposes but not placement: students must take ELI 110 or the English Placement Exam (EPE). It notes that minimum sub-scores may be considered in future for TOEFL. The page does not mention PTE Academic Online, PTE Core or a validity period.
For comparison, the same page asks IELTS 6.5 against PTE Academic 53.

If your PTE score falls short
The undergraduate page says applicants who meet every academic requirement except English could be offered conditional admission, starting their degree once they prove the required English level. Completing the UT English Language Institute's core intensive curriculum with an ELI faculty recommendation also meets the requirement.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UT Knoxville programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
