University of Vienna TOEFL test rules

The page names the internet-based TOEFL (iBT) and says TOEFL and the other listed certificates may not be older than three years on the date of your application. A C1 certificate also counts where only B2 is required. The page does not mention the Home Edition, MyBest scores or an institution code.

New TOEFL iBT score reports also carry a 1 to 6 score alongside the 0 to 120 total; see the new TOEFL score scale explained.

For comparison, the same page sets IELTS Academic at 6.5 overall for B2 and 8 overall with at least 7.5 per component for C1.

If your TOEFL score is below Vienna's level

The page lists other proofs that are valid indefinitely, such as a school-leaving certificate with an English exam from an EU or EEA country, Switzerland, the UK, the USA, Australia, New Zealand or Canada, or a full-time degree of at least two years taught entirely in English in one of those countries. For the Master's in Translation with English as a working language, the page asks for C2. If English is your first language but you lack a listed proof, the university may prescribe an assessment at your own cost.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your University of Vienna programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
