What TOEFL score do you need for the University of Waterloo?

Undergraduate admissions will not use TOEFL MyBest scores or TOEFL Essentials. The institution code is 0996 with department code 00, and if you have taken several tests you need to submit each result.

Graduate Studies also refuses MyBest scores, so the required scores must come from one test. Use institution code 0996 with department code 01. Scores are valid for two years from the test date, at-home versions are accepted, and Waterloo suggests testing at least two months before the deadline because scores take 4 to 6 weeks to arrive.

For comparison, the undergraduate page sets IELTS Academic at 6.5 with 6.5 in Writing and Speaking and 6.0 in Reading and Listening; the ECE MEng asks for IELTS 6.5 and the Physics MSc for 7.0.

Graduate applicants who are slightly below the required score may be offered conditional admission, as may applicants whose sponsorship funds English language study. At undergraduate level, 75% overall in level 400 of the English Language Institute's English for Academic Success programme, with at least 70% in EFAS 420, 440 and 460, meets the requirement.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Waterloo programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
