UW-Whitewater English requirements by level
From UW-Whitewater's international admissions page. It gives an overall IELTS band only and says only one accepted score is needed.
| Programme | IELTS Academic | Other tests |
|---|---|---|
| Undergraduate (first-year and transfer) | 6.0 | TOEFL iBT 4.0 (71 previous scale), Duolingo 110, PTE Academic 48, iTEP 3.7, SAT EBRW 430, ACT English 17 |
| Graduate | 6.0 | TOEFL iBT 79, WESLI 700-level coursework |
Exemptions for undergraduates
Undergraduates meet the requirement if they are citizens of, and lived for the two years before applying in, a listed country such as Australia, Canada (except Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, the UK, Fiji, Gambia, Liberia or a Caribbean nation. Nigeria, Ghana, India and Pakistan are not on that list. First-year applicants who attended a US high school for at least two years and graduated also qualify, as do transfers with a full year of coursework at an accredited college in an exempt country.
The graduate section lists TOEFL, IELTS and WESLI only; it does not list Duolingo or PTE.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admission cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UW-Whitewater programme page and in your admission letter, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (UW-Whitewater) publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
