What TOEFL score do you need for Western University?

Western's TOEFL institution code is 0984. Undergraduate applicants should choose "University of Western Ontario - Undergraduate Organization", and only scores sent electronically by ETS count. For fall 2027 entry the undergraduate page says the test must be written before March 2027 and scores from tests before 1 January 2025 are not accepted.

Graduate applicants need the score within the last two years, and some programmes require a higher minimum or specific section scores.

For comparison, the undergraduate page sets IELTS Academic at 6.5 with 6.0 in each section, and the graduate page sets 6.5.

Undergraduate applicants in the Boost range can be admitted to the English Boost Program before starting their degree. At graduate level, the page also accepts completion of the High-Advanced level at the Western English Language Centre or Level 10 of Fanshawe College ESL with at least 80% in all components.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Western programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
