Who is exempt
You need no test with a Dutch havo, vwo or mbo-4 diploma, a German Abitur or Fachhochschulreife with an English final exam, an International Baccalaureate, a European Baccalaureate in English or with English as a final exam subject, or a diploma granting admission from the United States, Canada, Australia, Great Britain or Ireland taught in English. Duolingo is not on the list.

If you are 21 or older without the right diploma, Windesheim offers a 21+ entrance examination that includes an ability test. Windesheim assesses international diplomas individually against Dutch equivalents.

Minimum vs competitive score
Where Windesheim University of Applied Sciences publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
