Degree taught in English
For master's applicants, an official confirmation of a three-year bachelor's (or a two-year master's) taught entirely in English, full time, at a recognised institution in the EU/EEA, Switzerland, the UK, the USA, Australia, New Zealand or Canada counts instead of a test. A degree from India, Pakistan, Nigeria or Bangladesh is not on that list, so plan for IELTS 7.0 or another C1 test.
English as a native or first language, and a C1 certificate from a university language centre covering all four skills, are also accepted. PTE Academic is listed for the bachelor's but not for master's programmes, and Duolingo is not listed for either.

When to submit
Master's applicants upload the certificate with the online application. Bachelor's applicants must show it at the latest when they are admitted in person.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your WU programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where WU Vienna (Vienna University of Economics and Business) publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
