Gorsedale Youth Hostel: Ground Floor Guide
Skip to the questions ↓Welcome to Gorsedale
Gorsedale Youth Hostel stands at the head of the valley and is a popular base for walkers, cyclists and school groups. The bedrooms for individual guests are on the first floor. This guide describes the ground floor, where you will find the shared facilities.
Arriving
The front door is at the south-east corner of the building and opens into Reception, where you check in and collect your key card. Reception is staffed from 7 am to 10.30 pm. To the west of Reception, along the south side of the building, is the luggage room, where bags can be left safely before check-in or after check-out.
The Hallway
From Reception, walk north into the Hallway. On its western side is the bike store, which has racks for twenty bicycles and a small repair stand with tools. West of the bike store are the Stairs to the first floor, and beyond them, at the western end of the building, are the Showers.
Eating and relaxing
Directly north of the Hallway is the self-catering kitchen, where guests can cook their own meals; each guest is given a labelled shelf in the fridge. Next to the kitchen, on its western side, is the Dining Room, where breakfast and evening meals are served for those who have booked them. At the western end of the building, beside the Dining Room, is the TV lounge, which has board games, books and a large television.
For walkers
The Family Rooms, which have their own bathrooms, take up the north-west part of the building. Walking boots must be taken off and left in the Boot Room in the north-east corner, as they are not allowed upstairs. Between the Family Rooms and the Boot Room is the drying room, where wet clothes and boots can be hung up to dry overnight.
House rules
Lights out in shared bedrooms is at 11 pm, and the front door is locked at midnight. Guests arriving later must arrange this with Reception in advance. Alcohol may only be drunk in the Dining Room.
