Rules for Brindlecombe Allotment Holders

Your plot and rent

Full plots measure 250 square metres, and half plots are 125 square metres. Rent is £45 a year for a full plot and £25 for a half plot, and it must be paid by 31 March. New plot holders are given a half plot for their first year, so they can find out how much time gardening takes. Plots are rented for one year at a time, and the agreement continues unless you tell us that you want to leave.

Water

Water troughs are placed along the main path and may be used from April to October. Hosepipes are not allowed at any time, as they use too much water; please fill a watering can from a trough instead. Please do not wash tools or boots in the troughs. Collecting rainwater from your shed roof in a water butt is strongly encouraged.

Bonfires

Bonfires may only be lit between November and February, and never on Sundays. Burn only dry garden waste, never plastic or household rubbish, and never leave a fire alone. Please think of the houses nearby and do not light a fire if the wind is blowing towards them.

Sheds and greenhouses

You may put up one shed and one greenhouse on a full plot, or a shed only on a half plot. A shed must not be more than two metres high. Before building anything, ask the committee secretary for written permission.

Keeping your plot tidy

At least three quarters of your plot must be used for growing fruit, vegetables or flowers. The committee checks every plot in June and September. If your plot is untidy, you will receive a letter, and if nothing improves within four weeks, you may lose the plot. If you are ill or away for a long time, please tell the committee so that we do not send a letter.

Children and animals

Children are welcome, but they must stay with an adult at all times. Dogs must be kept on a lead, and keeping chickens or other animals on the plots is not allowed. The car park gate is locked at night, so please remember to bring your key.
