Site Guide for New Support Staff: Copperfield Academy

Introduction

Copperfield Academy welcomes you as a new member of the support staff team. Whether you are joining us as a caretaker, cleaner, technician or office assistant, you will need to move around the whole site during the day. This guide describes where the main buildings are and explains some of the rules that apply to staff.

Arriving at school

All staff should enter by the staff gate in the south-west corner of the site, off Mill Road. The gate leads directly into the staff car park. Spaces are not reserved, and staff arriving after 8.15 am may find it full. The main building is east of the staff car park and contains the school office, the library and most classrooms. Support staff sign in at the school office each morning. In the south-east corner of the site, beyond the main building, is the boiler house, which only the site manager and the caretakers may enter.

The quad and the teaching blocks

Behind the main building is the main quad, an open paved area where students gather at break times. Please do not drive across the quad at any time between 8 am and 4 pm. Two smaller teaching blocks face each other across the quad. On its western side is the science block, which contains laboratories and a prep room for technicians. On its eastern side is the music block, which has practice rooms and a recording studio. The music block is often used for evening concerts, and caretakers may be asked to lock it afterwards.

Sports facilities

The playing field runs along the north of the site from the north-west corner and is used for football in winter and athletics in summer. Between the playing field and the tennis courts, which are in the north-east corner, is the sports hall. The sports hall is let to local clubs on weekday evenings and at weekends, so caretakers on late shifts must check it is empty before setting the alarm.

Safeguarding

All staff must wear their identity lanyard at all times while on site. If you see an adult you do not recognise without a visitor badge, politely ask them to report to the school office. Never be alone in a closed room with a student. Report any concern about a student's safety to the safeguarding lead on the same day.

Contacts

The site manager, Mr Okafor, can be reached on extension 210. For IT problems, contact the network office in the main building. The school office is open from 7.45 am to 4.30 pm during term time, and a member of the office team is always available to help new staff find their way.
