Photographs: questions and Band 8 answers
The examiner asks three to five short questions on two or three everyday topics in the first four to five minutes. These are the 12 questions about photographs in the BandLadder test bank, with sample answers for the most frequent ones. Aim for two or three sentences each: answer, reason, one detail.

What type of photos do you like taking?
I am particularly drawn to street photography because it captures the raw, candid essence of city life. I find it fascinating to document strangers in their natural environment, as these fleeting moments tell a much more compelling story than a perfectly staged portrait ever could.
When you visit other places, do you take photos or buy postcards?
Honestly, I prefer taking my own photographs rather than buying postcards. Snapping a picture allows me to frame the scene exactly how I perceive it, creating a personal memory that feels far more authentic and meaningful than a generic souvenir sold to every passing tourist.
Do you like taking photos?
Taking photographs is actually one of my favourite hobbies. It helps me slow down and appreciate my surroundings, forcing me to look for beauty in the mundane details that I might otherwise overlook during my busy daily routine.
In what situations do you take photographs?
I usually reach for my camera during special occasions or when I am travelling to a new destination. That said, I also love shooting during the golden hour, as the soft, warm light creates a stunning aesthetic that makes even ordinary objects look truly extraordinary.
Do you prefer to take pictures of people or of scenery?
My preference definitely leans towards capturing sweeping landscapes and natural scenery. While portraits can be lovely, I find the scale and majesty of mountains or coastal views much more rewarding to photograph, especially when the weather conditions add a bit of drama to the composition.
Do you like when people take photos of you?
To be perfectly honest, I am a bit camera-shy and tend to feel self-conscious when someone points a lens at me. I much prefer being the person behind the camera, as it gives me a sense of control and allows me to remain an observer of the action.
