1

Do you often use a ruler?

Not very often these days, to be honest. I mostly work on a laptop, so I rarely handle physical stationery. However, I still keep a small wooden ruler in my desk drawer just in case I need to measure a parcel or draw a neat line.

2

What do you usually use a ruler for?

Whenever I do use one, it is usually for simple DIY jobs around the flat, like checking the dimensions of a picture frame before hanging it. Occasionally, I also use it as a straight edge to cut wrapping paper cleanly with a craft knife.

3

Did you use a ruler much when you were at school?

Yes, constantly. Back in secondary school, having a clear plastic ruler in your pencil case was an absolute essential for maths and science classes. We had to underline dates in our exercise books every morning and plot graphs by hand, so I used mine daily.

4

What kind of ruler do you prefer using?

I actually prefer sturdy metal rulers over flimsy plastic ones. They tend to last a lot longer without chipping at the corners, and they do not snap easily if you accidentally bend them in a rucksack. Plus, they give a much sharper edge.

5

Do you think rulers are still useful now that we have digital tools?

Definitely. While measuring apps on mobile phones are pretty handy, they are not always completely precise. For hands-on crafts, carpentry, or everyday home repairs, you just cannot beat a physical ruler for accuracy and speed. It is far more reliable than relying on a screen.

Details are invented. Use the shape, not the sentences: examiners mark memorised answers down.
