1

Do you send text messages often?

All the time, really. It is just the easiest way to keep in touch with friends and colleagues throughout the day without interrupting them. Just this morning, I texted my flatmate to ask if we needed any milk on my way home from work.

2

Do you prefer texting people or calling them?

To be honest, it depends on the situation, but I usually lean towards texting. It gives me a bit of time to think about my reply. That said, if there is an urgent issue, like last week when my train was cancelled, I will always ring directly instead.

3

Have you ever received a confusing text message?

Yes, quite a few times, actually. Auto-correct often changes words into complete nonsense. My brother once sent me a message saying he had adopted a bear, but it turned out he had simply mistyped the word 'beer', which gave us both a good laugh.

4

Is there any situation where sending a text message is inappropriate?

Definitely. I would say breaking serious bad news over text is quite insensitive. If you have to tell someone that a relative is ill, or if you are resigning from a job, you really ought to do it face-to-face or at least over a phone call.

5

Do you think you will send more or fewer text messages in the future?

I reckon it will stay about the same, though I might switch more towards voice notes. A lot of my friends have started sending short audio clips rather than typing out long paragraphs, and I can see myself getting into that habit too.

Details are invented. Use the shape, not the sentences: examiners mark memorised answers down.
