1

Have you ever visited a valley?

Yes, I have, actually. A couple of years ago, I went hiking in a dramatic river valley in the north of England. The scenery was breathtaking, with steep hills on both sides and a winding stream along the bottom, which made it such a peaceful getaway.

2

Are there any valleys near where you live?

Not right on my doorstep, as I live in quite a flat, urban area. However, if you drive about an hour out towards the countryside, you reach a lush green valley that's really popular with cyclists and campers at the weekend.

3

What do you think people usually do when they visit a valley?

Well, most people go for outdoor activities like trekking, birdwatching, or taking photographs of the landscape. I suppose some just go to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and have a quiet picnic surrounded by nature.

4

Did you learn about geographic features like valleys at school?

Yes, I remember doing that in geography lessons when I was around eleven. We were taught how glaciers and rivers carved out U-shaped and V-shaped valleys over millions of years, which I actually found quite fascinating at the time.

5

Would you like to live in a valley in the future?

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure. While waking up to picturesque views every morning sounds idyllic, I imagine it might feel a bit isolated in winter. Plus, getting a decent mobile phone signal down there can be a real nightmare.

Details are invented. Use the shape, not the sentences: examiners mark memorised answers down.
