Percentage of Australian men and women doing regular physical activity in 2010

The bar chart illustrates the proportion of Australian males and females across six age brackets who engaged in regular physical activity during 2010. Overall, it is evident that women were more active than men in the majority of age groups, whereas men only recorded higher participation rates in the 15 to 24 age category.

In the youngest group (15 to 24), men were the most active, with 52.8% participating, compared to 47.7% of women. However, this trend reversed significantly in the subsequent age groups. For individuals aged 25 to 34, female participation rose to 48.9%, while male activity dropped to 42.2%. This gap widened further among those aged 35 to 44 and 45 to 54, where female participation peaked at 52.5% and 53.3% respectively, while male figures remained lower at 39.5% and 43.1%.

Regarding the older population, women aged 55 to 64 maintained a higher activity level at 53%, compared to 45.1% for men. Finally, in the 65 and over category, the participation rates for both genders converged, with 46.7% of men and 47.1% of women engaging in regular physical activity, representing the most balanced figures across all age groups.
