What the checker looks at
Pearson asks for a 200 to 300 word argumentative essay in 20 minutes and scores it on seven factors: content, development, structure and coherence, form, general linguistic range, grammar, vocabulary range and spelling. An essay that does not address the topic scores zero on all of them (Pearson: PTE Academic writing).
The checker scores your essay on those traits and shows each one, so you can see whether content, organisation, length or accuracy is costing you points.

How is PTE Write Essay scored?
Pearson scores Write Essay on seven factors: content, development, structure and coherence, form (200 to 300 words), general linguistic range, grammar, vocabulary range and spelling. If the essay does not address the topic, it scores zero on every factor.
Is the score the same as my real PTE score?
No. It is an estimate to help you practise, scored on the traits Pearson publishes. Use it to see which trait is costing you points, then rewrite and check again.
How long should a PTE essay be?
Between 200 and 300 words, written in 20 minutes. Essays outside that range lose points for form, so the checker accepts 120 to 380 words to show you that effect.
