In an effort to curb carbon emissions, some municipal authorities have proposed banning non-recyclable plastic packaging on fresh groceries. However, packaging manufacturers argue that plastic wrapping significantly prolongs shelf life, thereby preventing food spoilage that carries a far higher environmental cost.
