PTE score calculator
Enter your four PTE skill scores and your overall. For PTE Academic you get the IELTS band for each skill and the overall, plus your Australian visa English level. For PTE Core you get the CLB level for each skill. Both show your weakest skill and the gap to your target.

How PTE scoring works
Every PTE score runs from 10 to 90. Your report shows an overall score and four communicative skill scores: listening, reading, speaking and writing. Pearson says the overall is based on your performance across the whole test. It is not an average of the four skill scores, so this calculator never works out an overall for you.
Many tasks are integrated. Repeat Sentence counts towards listening and speaking, and Summarize Written Text towards reading and writing. Items also carry different weight in each score. That is why your overall can sit above or below the mean of your skills. See PTE scoring criteria for every question type and how to read your PTE score report.
Where the conversions come from
- IELTS (PTE Academic): Pearson's July 2025 concordance, which gives a separate PTE range for each IELTS band and skill. See every range on the PTE score chart or the PTE to IELTS converter.
- Australian visa level (PTE Academic): the Department of Home Affairs minimums for Competent, Proficient and Superior English for tests from 7 August 2025. Older tests: use the PTE Superior English checker.
- CLB (PTE Core): IRCC's Express Entry language tables, the same as the PTE Core to CLB calculator.
Example: why the weakest skill matters
PTE Academic listening 72, reading 70, speaking 80 and writing 66 is Competent English, not Proficient. Writing is 3 short of the Proficient minimum of 69, even though the other three skills already clear it. Practise the weakest skill first.

FAQ
- How is the PTE overall score calculated?
- Pearson scores every item in the test and builds the overall score from your performance across the whole test. It is not simply an average of your four communicative skill scores, so this calculator does not estimate an overall from them. Enter the overall from your score report instead.
- Why is my PTE overall score different from the average of my skills?
- Many PTE tasks are integrated: Repeat Sentence counts towards Listening and Speaking, and Summarize Written Text towards Reading and Writing. Items also carry different weight in the overall and in each skill, so the overall can sit above or below the mean of the four skill scores.
- What IELTS band is PTE 65?
- On Pearson’s July 2025 concordance, a PTE Academic overall of 65 sits in the 63–70 range, which matches IELTS 7.0. Each skill has its own range, and speaking and writing need higher PTE scores for the same IELTS band.
- What PTE score do I need for Superior English in Australia?
- For tests taken from 7 August 2025, Superior English needs at least listening 69, reading 70, writing 85 and speaking 88. Proficient needs 58, 59, 69 and 76, and Competent 47, 48, 51 and 54. Tests taken on or before 6 August 2025 use 79, 65 and 50 in every skill.
- Can I use PTE Academic scores for Canada PR?
- No. IRCC accepts PTE Core, not PTE Academic, for Express Entry. Choose PTE Core in the calculator to see the CLB level for each skill. IRCC uses the four skill scores, not the overall.
