The Commonwealth Master's central application deadline is 20 October 2026 at 16:00 BST (8:30pm IST), but applicants must also meet their nominator's separate rules and deadline.

Chevening India 2027–28: which dates matter?
The official Chevening India page confirms that applications are open for 2027–28. It points applicants towards eligible one-year taught master's courses in the UK. Read the full eligibility criteria, including education, work experience and return-home conditions, before investing time in an application.
- Scholarship application: submit by 6 October 2026, 11:00 UTC. For India, that is 4:30pm IST on the same date.
- Unconditional university offer: successful interview candidates must receive and submit at least one unconditional UK university offer by 8 July 2027, 17:00 BST (9:30pm IST).
- Study start: September/October 2027.
These milestones come from Chevening's application timeline. Put the official timezone beside each date in your calendar. Do not treat the July offer deadline as permission to ignore an earlier deadline set by a university.
Commonwealth Master's 2027–28: check both applications
The agency-nominated Commonwealth Master's programme lists India among its eligible countries. Its central application window is open for study starting in September/October 2027, with a closing time of 16:00 BST on 20 October 2026.
You must apply through CSC Central and to a participating nominator. Nominators can have additional criteria and their own closing dates. Submitting only the CSC form does not complete this route; nomination also does not guarantee an award.
India-specific check: this article does not establish the current Indian nomination deadline. Consult the Ministry of Education scholarship notices and the nominator information linked from the CSC programme page. Confirm the notice names the 2027–28 cycle; an older year's dates cannot safely be reused.
The CSC application FAQs explicitly require applicants to satisfy both sets of deadlines and criteria. Record two separate submission tasks, each with its own document checklist and confirmation receipt.
Do Chevening and Commonwealth require IELTS or PTE?
The award application and university admission are separate checks. Chevening's English-language FAQ says its own English requirement was removed in 2020, while the chosen university's requirements still apply. The CSC FAQs say an English certificate is not needed for the CSC application itself, but applicants must check their university's requirements.
Neither statement gives every applicant a university English exemption. Before choosing IELTS Academic or PTE Academic, save the exact course policy and ask admissions to clarify anything missing:
- Which test versions and delivery formats are accepted for this course and intake?
- What overall score and individual Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking scores are required?
- When must the result reach the university, and how must it be sent?
- Does an alternative such as previous English-medium study meet the policy, and what documentation proves it?

Original fictional planning exercise: Asha has a conditional university offer. Her university says acceptable English evidence must arrive by 1 June 2027. She has also noted Chevening's 8 July unconditional-offer deadline. She plans her first English test for late June. What is wrong with this plan?
Reveal the answer and planning method
The university's earlier requirement controls her English-evidence plan. A late-June first attempt would already be after its 1 June deadline. The later scholarship offer deadline does not extend the university's deadline. She should confirm the course conditions, then allow time before 1 June for preparation, test availability, results, delivery and any necessary retest.
No single test date is guaranteed to work for every applicant. Work backwards from the earliest binding deadline using the provider's current booking and result information. Keep an explicit buffer instead of assuming one attempt will produce every required skill score.

- Confirm the route: award name, cycle, nationality/residence rules, education and experience requirements, eligible course and return-home conditions.
- Separate the deadlines: scholarship, nominator where applicable, course admission, English evidence and unconditional offer. Write “unverified” beside an unknown date and resolve it with the responsible organisation.
- Prepare your documents: make a list from the actual application instructions, assign each item a next action and track requests to referees or institutions.
- Set a four-skill target: use the course's accepted exam and minimums, then identify which skills need the most work.
- Allow recovery time: plan for booking availability, document delays and a possible retest rather than using the last available day.
