Exemptions and validity
For the MBA, native English speakers who completed English-medium secondary school in a country where English is official are exempt, and scores are valid only if issued within two years of matriculation. For the DBA, a prior English-taught bachelor's or master's removes the test, and scores must come directly from the test provider.

English Language Programme
Applicants without proof of English can join AUM's English Language Programme, which starts with a diagnostic test and ends with the ESB Level 1 Certificate in ESOL International (B2). Levels A1 to B2 run four weeks each. Bachelor's and MSc deadlines are 1 August for autumn and 15 January for spring.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your AUM programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where the American University of Malta publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
