What PTE score do you need for APU Malaysia?

APU's equivalency chart has one row headed "PTE Academic/PTE Academic (Online)", so the online version is listed alongside the test-centre version. The page does not mention PTE Core, a score validity period or how to send scores; upload your score report with your application and confirm with APU admissions.

On the same chart, the six PTE scores line up with IELTS 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0 and 6.5, and with CEFR B1 low to B2 high. So PTE 59 sits where APU puts IELTS 6.0, and PTE 63 where it puts IELTS 6.5.

Pearson has discontinued PTE Academic Online for new bookings, so plan on a test-centre PTE Academic sitting even where this page still lists the online version. See can you take PTE at home.

APU's page says that, under Ministry of Higher Education rules, only students who meet the English minimum can continue into the main programme. Students without it may apply for a student visa on a conditional basis, enrol in an English Language Certification programme at APU on arrival and then sit IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or MUET. Students who do not reach the required level within a maximum of 12 months cannot continue into the main programme.

Students from English-speaking countries and those with qualifications taught in English, such as IGCSE, A-Levels, IB or an American high school diploma, are exempt if they send supporting documents with the exemption request.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your APU programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
