Test rules and how PTE compares to IELTS at Curtin Malaysia
The table accepts PTE Academic and PTE Academic UKVI. It does not mention PTE Academic Online or PTE Core, does not set a score validity period and does not explain how to send scores, so check with Curtin Malaysia admissions before booking an online test.
On the same table, PTE 50 sits beside IELTS 6.0 with no band below 6.0, and PTE 58 beside IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0. Watch the speaking floor: the degree-level PTE rows need 54 in speaking, higher than the reading and listening floor of 50.

If you fall short
The table has a separate Foundation + Academic English column with a lower PTE entry point of 36 overall and 33 in each skill, which is the stated route for students below the standard foundation level of 42. Malaysian school results such as SPM English and MUET are also on the table.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Curtin Malaysia programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
