What IELTS score do you need for Athabasca University?

Undergraduates need proof only if their first language is not English or they did not complete secondary or post-secondary education in an English-speaking country. Instead of a test, they can complete at least 15 credits (for example five 3-credit courses) at a recognised English-speaking post-secondary institution, or finish Athabasca's own English Language Proficiency Program with a 75 per cent average.

Graduate applicants can instead show a completed degree from an accredited institution where English was the main language of instruction, 70 per cent or higher in an Athabasca English course recognised by the faculty, or a set of Athabasca courses taken as a non-program student. The calendar does not limit the degree route to particular countries, but proof that teaching was in English may be requested.

The graduate calendar says each faculty and centre may add its own requirements, and that meeting the standard does not guarantee admission. Undergraduate proof is emailed to the registrar's enrolment office. Because Athabasca teaches online, a Canadian study permit is usually not part of the picture; confirm with the university if you plan to study from inside Canada.

Requirements vary by program and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Athabasca program page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test. Admission scores are separate from immigration rules: see IELTS for a Canada study permit and IELTS for the Canada PGWP.
