Duolingo and other certificates
BIT names the Duolingo English Test, at 110. The page also says other language certificates recognised by BIT may be provided, and native English speakers are exempt. It does not mention a medium-of-instruction waiver, so plan on a test unless BIT confirms otherwise.

Eligibility and how to apply
Master's applicants need a bachelor's degree and must be under 35; doctoral applicants need a master's degree and must be under 40. The MBA also asks for at least one year of related work or internship experience. Applications go through apply.isc.bit.edu.cn, and Chinese Government Scholarship applicants had earlier rounds ending 15 February and 15 April 2026.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your BIT programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
