What PTE score do you need for Birkbeck, University of London?

PTE Academic must be no more than two years old. For tests with a two-year validity, Birkbeck checks the date on 1 June for courses starting in October and on 1 September for January starts, so an older test can expire earlier than you expect. Birkbeck does not accept PTE Academic Online, and it does not accept IELTS Academic Online either.

Against IELTS, the standard requirement is 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each sub-test. If you need a Student visa, the partial-study and work-experience routes on the page are not available to you; you must use one of the listed tests or qualifications.

Birkbeck runs a combined eight-week Pre-Sessional and In-Sessional English Programme for international students. The page gives no PTE entry score for it.

For the Student visa itself, gov.uk asks for English equivalent to CEFR B2 at degree level or above and B1 below degree level, and says a university can assess degree-level applicants' English itself. Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Birkbeck programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
