Brunel IELTS and PTE examples from course pages
Brunel's English language requirements page says every course lists its English requirement under entry criteria, generally between IELTS 6.0 and 7.0, with sub-score minimums on some courses. These course pages were read on 4 October 2026.

Brunel's PTE and TOEFL equivalents
Brunel's table lists Pearson PTE Academic UKVI against each IELTS level, and TOEFL iBT taken after 23 January 2026 on the new scale. The lowest row applies to pre-sessional English only. Duolingo does not appear on Brunel's list of accepted qualifications, and IELTS Online and One Skill Retake are not stated by Brunel.

Brunel's India page accepts Standard XII English from four boards, and asks applicants from other boards to enquire. Its Nigeria page accepts school English results. The Pakistan page lists no school qualification in place of a test, and a Nepal page was not available, so routes for Pakistan and Nepal are not stated by Brunel.

BrunELT, which IELTS, and pre-sessional
From 1 July 2026 the online BrunELT is delivered with Password and taken from home. It costs £90, is for applicants to a Brunel degree or Brunel Pathway College, allows three attempts, and results arrive within 10 working days. Brunel issues no certificate, as the result is used only for entry to Brunel.
Brunel's main page says that if you do not need a pre-sessional course it can accept a non-UKVI IELTS from an official test centre at the required scores. Its course pages say Student visa applicants need an IELTS for UKVI or Trinity SELT, passed within two years of the CAS date, for Brunel to issue a CAS. Check which applies to you with admissions.
Pre-sessional English runs from 6 to 42 weeks, on campus or online, from £362 a week. To study English before your degree on a Student visa you need a SELT, such as IELTS for UKVI with at least 4.0 overall and in each sub-score, or PTE Academic UKVI with 43 in each part.
For a Student visa, UK Visas and Immigration asks for English at CEFR B2 for degree-level study and B1 below degree level, per gov.uk. At degree level, gov.uk adds, your university can assess your English itself and may ask you to take a different test.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Brunel programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.

Does Brunel University accept PTE?+
Yes. The course pages read list Pearson 59 with 59 in all subscores, and Brunel's table lists PTE Academic UKVI at 59 for IELTS 5.5 to 6.5 levels and 64 for 7.0.
Does Brunel accept Duolingo?+
Duolingo does not appear on Brunel's list of accepted English qualifications. Brunel's own online test, BrunELT, costs £90 and can be taken from home.
Can Indian students study at Brunel without IELTS?+
Yes, with 70% in Standard XII English from CBSE, ICSE, the Maharashtra Board or West Bengal for IELTS 6.0 and 6.5 courses, or 80% for 7.0 and 7.5 courses. Applicants from other boards should enquire.
What IELTS do I need for a master's at Brunel?+
The Data Science and Analytics MSc and the MBA both ask for 6.5 with at least 6 in all areas. Brunel courses generally range from 6.0 to 7.0.
