| Graduate (general) | 80 (old scale) or 4.5 (new scale) | Home Edition and MyBest same minimum |
| MA English | 100 (old scale) or 5 (new scale) | |
| Master's in Urban and Regional Planning | 92 to 93 (old scale) or 4.5 (new scale) |
How Cal Poly Pomona handles TOEFL scores
Both pages list the TOEFL iBT Home Edition and MyBest alongside the standard test. If you took the TOEFL on or after 21 January 2026, you must meet the new-scale minimum; if you took it before that date, you can use the old-scale minimum for up to two years.
For comparison, the freshman page sets IELTS at 6.0, and the graduate page sets 6.5, or 7.0 for MA English applicants.

If your TOEFL score is below Cal Poly Pomona's level
Completing and passing level five at the Cal Poly English Language Institute (CPELI) waives the test for undergraduates, and level six waives it for graduate students. Three years of full-time study where English is the main language of instruction also qualifies.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Cal Poly Pomona programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
