Validity, combining sittings and online tests

The test must be completed within two years of commencement. For standard courses CDU accepts combined results from two sittings of PTE Academic within six months if the overall score meets the minimum in both tests and you reach each section minimum in at least one of them.

For the nursing and midwifery courses, results can come from two sittings in 12 months if each sitting reaches 63 overall and no skill in either sitting falls below 53 listening, 54 reading, 60 writing or 66 speaking. PTE Online is not accepted for these courses. The general page does not address PTE Online for other courses or give a Pearson institution code.

CDU's page does not list PTE Core. Pearson's PTE Core FAQ says PTE Core is initially only suitable for work and migration visa routes to Canada and that PTE Academic is the test accepted for university study. For comparison, CDU sets IELTS 6.0 with no band below 6.0 for undergraduate and 6.5 with no band below 6.0 for postgraduate.

If your PTE score falls short

CDU's own ELICOS English for Academic Purposes course counts instead of a test: successful completion of EAP003 for undergraduate courses and EAP004 for postgraduate courses. CDU also lists previous study in English and an enabling program as other routes for courses with standard entry.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your CDU programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
