What Duolingo score do you need for Colorado School of Mines?

Colorado School of Mines asks for a Duolingo English Test score of 105 overall with no subscore below 100. That applies to all first-year applicants and to graduate applicants, where the graduate page lists 100 in Production, Literacy, Comprehension and Conversation. Graduate scores are valid for two years, and Mines needs official scores before it issues an immigration document.

How Mines handles Duolingo scores

Undergraduates: Mines must have your official scores on file before it can issue your immigration document, and the timeline asks you to send official IELTS, TOEFL or Duolingo scores directly from the testing agency by 1 May.

Graduate applicants are encouraged to self-report scores or upload an unofficial copy. Official scores are required if you are admitted, or if your scores will expire before your first semester; the page says scores are valid for two years. Applicants to online programmes who will study outside the US do not need English scores. The graduate page links to Duolingo's own instructions for sending results and says nothing about teaching assistant English rules.

For comparison, the first-year page and the graduate page both set IELTS at 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each band, and Mines will superscore IELTS band scores. Neither page says it superscores Duolingo.

If your Duolingo score is below 105

Neither page describes conditional admission or a pathway programme. First-year applicants can instead use TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge English at 176 with no skill below 169, four years at a US high school, or citizenship of a listed English-speaking country.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Mines programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
