This table is Duolingo's own overall score comparison, read from its scores page on 14 October 2026. The IELTS comparison is with IELTS Academic, and the TOEFL iBT figures use the old 0 to 120 scale, not the new 1 to 6 scale (DET help centre).

Subscores
Since 1 July 2024, certified results report four individual subscores (Speaking, Writing, Reading, Listening) and four integrated subscores (DET help centre). The average of the individual subscores, rounded to the nearest 5, is your overall score. Each integrated subscore is the average of two individual ones, as shown on the scores page. Integrated subscores from before 1 July 2024 cannot be compared with or converted to the new ones.

How to use the chart
Duolingo says the subscore comparison tables were built from official score reports collected in 2024 and 2025: 1,943 IELTS Academic and 948 TOEFL iBT test takers (DET help centre). The average of subscore comparisons does not always match the overall comparison, and CEFR alignment studies are still ongoing. Treat the chart as a guide; the university's stated DET minimum is what counts.
