What does not count

CBS lists exact upper secondary qualifications that meet English A, for example from Australia, Ireland, the IB and EU countries. If yours is not on the list, you need a test. There is no route for an English-taught bachelor's from India, Pakistan, Nigeria or Bangladesh. IELTS One Skill Retake and TOEFL MyBest scores are not accepted, and PTE and Duolingo are not on the list.

For 2026 admission CBS also accepts TOEFL 94 on the old scale and 4.5 on the new scale, provided both appear on the certificate and each section is at least 4.5.

Deadlines and the bachelor's

For master's programmes, your test result must be available to CBS by the application deadline, and the test date must be less than two years old on that deadline. CBS suggests testing three to four weeks before the deadline.

For bachelor's programmes, CBS accepts IELTS (7.0, 6.0 per section) only if you already have English B at grade 6.0; otherwise only Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency count. Applicants who need a residence permit must get test results to CBS by 15 March, per its bachelor's admission page.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your CBS programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.

Minimum vs competitive score

Where Copenhagen Business School (CBS) publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.

Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.

If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
