School or degree in English

You meet English B without a test if you took an English-language high school exam, or an English-language bachelor's degree, in Denmark, another EU country, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, the UK, the USA, Canada, South Africa, Australia or New Zealand. ITU says it has no legal basis to exempt applicants whose upper secondary certificate is from outside the EU/EEA, so applicants from India, Pakistan, Nigeria and Bangladesh need a test.

TOEFL MyBest Scores and IELTS One Skill Retake are not accepted. PTE and Duolingo are not listed.

Applying before you have a score

You can apply before you take the test by uploading proof that you are booked. Non-EU/EEA applicants who pay tuition fees must get the result to ITU no later than three weeks after the application deadline; if it does not meet the requirement, admission is cancelled. CPE and CAE results have no time limit.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your ITU programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.

Minimum vs competitive score

Where the IT University of Copenhagen (ITU) publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.

Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.

If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
