What IELTS score do you need for Coventry University?

The country entries on the same page set out these alternatives. The Standard XII English route applies only to certain examination boards: the Central boards, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Uttarakhand. Indian applicants who meet neither route can take the Coventry University English Test.

Coventry names PTE as an acceptable test for Indian applicants, but the PTE score is not stated by Coventry on the pages read. The Nigeria entry lists IELTS or TOEFL together with a WAEC English minimum of C; it does not say WAEC alone replaces a test.

Coventry's English language test page offers CUET in person or online to applicants with a conditional offer. The online version runs on Duolingo's assessment platform, and its results count only for Coventry University Group. Coventry recommends IELTS of at least 5.0 in all components for undergraduate entry and 5.5 for postgraduate. Applicants from Punjab, Haryana and Uttarakhand currently cannot use CUET. A standalone Duolingo English Test score is not stated by Coventry as accepted.

The minimum IELTS Coventry accepts for a pre-sessional English course is 4.5, and the on-campus course needs a SELT taken at a UKVI-approved centre. Autumn pre-sessional courses in 2026 and 2027 are online only. Coventry's English requirements page adds that it can consider results from other reputable test providers. One Skill Retake, IELTS Online and test validity are not stated by Coventry.

For a Student visa, UK Visas and Immigration asks for English at CEFR B2 for degree-level study and B1 below degree level, per gov.uk. At degree level, gov.uk adds, your university can assess your English itself and may ask you to take a different test.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Coventry programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
